In the beginning was the Earth

In the beginning was the earth, a world huge but empty, not even the primordial chaos, a World flat and desert. When the first people arrived, they found nothing, and it was they who began to build the first shelters, the first furnishings, to throw the first seeds of a possible, future society. Some villages, a few lands, then more and more numerous, more and more big, huge city.

The craftsmanship of the Master Builders grew. The ability to compose shapes and colors, textures and joints, became art. The Master Builders were a “caste”, they were a little group, unattainable. They were the first researchers, the first experimenters. Pioneers who sought the truth, and they built it with their own hands.

The big companies, when they made their brief appearance, turned to them, to lay the foundations for what they believed the garden of a futuristic Eden, as predicted by the visionaries of the time. In addition to the Master Builders a large group of young and inexperienced “prims-workers” started to grow and multiply.

New lands rose continuously, strange worlds, fantastic and unequal. Some of the “prims-workers” began to produce more and more artifacts, others followed suit, in a whirlwind of prims overproduction. But the caste of the Master Builders remained unmatched, forever. And it remained unchanged the gap between them and all the others.

The bulk of the artifacts came up in a disorderly way, but still handmade, as a result, in any case, of the human effort. Very few remaining as examples of those time, first of all the inimitable Svarga, Vitual World Heritage Site.

And went the time of the Meshes. Instead of contributing to the growth of the Virtual World, with works belonging to that world, they tried shortcuts, importing external artifacts, built with advanced tools for 3D modeling, that had nothing to do with the Virtual World.

So the caste of the Master Builders gradually retired disappointed, giving way to the era of the sellers of gadgets, which with little money selling anything, in the shape and size that you want.

In this way it went polluting the Virtual World, with objects that did not belong to it, and that they could not contribute to its growth. Even “prims-workers”, who represented a substrate from which it would be possible to develop future craftsmen in the Virtual World, went gradually disappearing.

To the pollution of the earth joined the distortion of the trade, bringing outside of the Virtual World, in a strange Marketplace, the economic bargaining, and the sales of the most improbable artifacts. And they were also imported into the Virtual World, distorting, once more, its essence. As the Master Builders, even the craftsmen went disappearing.

Off the building, off the economy, remained the discotheques, the concerts and the weekend long flirts, with some nostalgic, small, groups of artists and willing intellectuals. The actual foundations of the growth of the Virtual World were so, gradually, destroied. Hardened veterans, still go around in the most desolate lands. A World victim of the decline in a sort of virtual post-atomic era, who survives to himself.

It is difficult to imagine anything worse. Yet, something has remained in the cells and in the knowledge of the few survivors of that time, not overwhelmed by the latest, squalid invaders. Something you can see, even in the new management of the Coding Authority, in its purpose to the inhabitants of rapprochement, and protection of intellectual property. Maybe a future world, for now long ago, when the virtual society picks up the reins of his evolution, is still possible.

Perhaps we must protect the “Made in”, and must return to protect and nurture the business. Maybe we must start from the Earth, and will then have to return the Master Builders. Maybe …
